How to Survive a Boring Class
from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit
If a class really boring, and you find it hard to concentrate on what the teacher is saying, try the following bits of advice, but you might find yourself getting into real trouble by doing them.
Steps
- Get out a clean sheet of notebook paper and begin brainstorming. Write random things down on it. When you are done, start thinking about them, and figure out how to turn your thoughts into a daydream. You can daydream about things you would like to do, or see. Doing so makes the time seem to pass so fast, that when you look up at the clock, the class period is over, and it will be time to go to your next class!
- Look around the classroom, or at another classmate. Even better, put your head down on your desk. When you do this, make sure you sit at the back of the room so that your teacher might not see you.
- Get out a piece of paper and start drawing. This could also be an opportunity for you to learn something useful.
- Take out a pen/pencil and a notebook and start to write a story. It doesn't matter how good an author you are, just start writing about the first thing you think of. You could write about your life, or about a kid in the mountains. It could be a fantasy, or something that really happened to you. At the end of class, read what you have written. You might want to add to it in another boring class, until you find you have written a short story. Who knows, if you have a lot of boring classes, you could write a book, and possibly even have it published someday and become rich and famous!
- Hurt yourself and cry, or purposely break your pen open and splodge ink all over the desk. This way, you will cause a ruckus.
- Or, pretend you feel sick. This may require a little bit of talent/acting, so make sure you are up to the challenge. When you enter the class, make sure you are holding your stomach (or whatever you wish to pretend hurts). If your teacher asks if you are OK, tell him/her that you do not feel well, and that maybe something you ate is making you feel sick and ask if you can go to the health office. He/she will probably send you to see the nurse. This way, you can get out of classwork for the period, or if you are lucky, maybe even get out of the school for the day.
- Play quiet writing games instead of taking notes so you look like you're paying attention. If your teacher has an annoying or weird habit, like saying, 'Um', or clearing his/her throat, jot down how many times he/she does it.
- If you have a buddy who sits relatively near you, talk to him. It will make class go by faster. If you get yelled at and the teacher moves you away from your buddy, just keep talking. The teacher might move you two closer so you won't disturb class. If you get kicked out of class, oh well. At least you'll have something to do when you're out of class (like talking to the dean).
- Make things to sell to people at school, for example chainmaille bracelets, necklaces, duct tape wallets (be careful about the ripping noise), oragami (good luck finding people to buy that) etc.
- Count things, like the number of tiles on the floor, the numbers of tiny holes in the ceiling, the posters on the wall, or the hairs on head of the person in front of you.
- Get a buddy and play connect 4 on a piece of paper at the back of the class
12.My favorite is to bring food to class.. it makes everybody laugh when you play a game with youself and try to eat without the teacher seeing you.. it sounds boring but its really alotta fun if ur not suposed to do it. ill call it.. eyeball dodger lol. when the teacher sees u looking at him wierd when he turns around and doesnt realize that uv abruptly stopped chewing haha, he will give you a really funny look that will also make the other kids laugh. but if your too suspicious ull be a lil hungry. enjoy
Tips
- Plan your excuse...
- Try, as much as possible, to do something that you can do while paying partial attention to the teacher--this way, if the teacher calls on you, you'll at least know a little about what's going on and will be able to answer. Try knitting, crocheting, drawing or origami.
- When doing anything that your teacher may get mad at you for, be careful to only do it when their back is turned to you.
- The writing activities are less likely to call your teacher's attention. Hey, he or she might even think you're taking notes!
- If you keep your eyes on the teacher while daydreaming, he/she might think you're deeply concentrated on what he/she is saying. Or possibly that you're a creep.
- If you have homework that you want to finish while in the boring class, go ahead and finish it. but make sure to raise your hand and ask a question every so often, to prevent getting caught.
- If the teacher calls on you and you don't know what is going on, say you were busy taking notes, or a good excuse.
Warnings
- If you get caught, you may be sent to the Deans/Principal's office, Kicked out for that class, or just scolded by your teacher
- Do not play all the games at any one class. Just find one that you like, and that will keep your mind off the boring class.
- Remember though, that even a boring class has tests, and if you don't listen, and don't do homework, you will fail your tests, fail the class, and might have to take the same 'boring class' all over again. Your grade and education should be worth more than your mental stimulation.
