fed up
let's be honest. men are pigs. sometimes worse. wait, men ARE worse than pigs or any animal. i'm being 100% honest here.
A little trip to the bookshop with a friend of mine did prove that very well. Jess and I took a walk from USJ 6 to Taipan since I wanted to buy books in Big Bookshop. On the way, we got looks, we got 'comments'. Believe me by the end of that walk, I was feeling two things simultaneously.
anger and fear.
I do think my anger was justified. When someone tells you something about your body which you OF COURSE know, please, of course it pisses you off. If someone looks at you like he is stripping you with his eyes, you'd get mad.
Fear came when the possibility of getting kidnapped or 'injured' was rather prominent. 'What if he does that?' 'What if they pursue this?' Thoughts ran through my head as i peeked behind us every step we took.
Have you felt that?
Fear?
Anger?
both colliding at one moment in time.
The world is so contaminated by provocative images, lyrics that objectify women, clothes that 'highlight' parts of our physique. As you may realise now, women are considered 'things'. Entertainment, toys. RESPECT is long gone now. Chivalry IS almost dead (only a glint of men have that). What happened?
A while ago, women and men needed chaperones in order to be beside each other. Now? I'm not saying we need to be 'observed' all the time but men used to know that there is a limit you could take with joking with a girl or talking to them. There is a line there. You should know I'm all for being friends with guys.
But are we being too friendly?
Friends our age, our 'foster fathers', our relatives. Is it right for them to make us feel uncomfortable? Is it right for them to share 'adult jokes' or have comments heavily ladened with innuendo thrown at us? Is it? I don't think so. Is it right that they mention how are bodies are shaped (doctors don't count)? Is it right that we are teased in ways that's just derogatory?
Alright, alright. I DID start with blaming men but it is our fault too. We don't stand up against the use of our bodies (women in general that is) in the many sick ways the media has done? When we see some celebrity in a music video for instance, teasing guys with their body, strutting around 90% naked, we're indirectly buying into that idea. Girl don't say anything against that since we believe that its empowering.
Is it?
Guys now believe that THAT is how girls should look, THAT is how we should act, THAT is how we want to treated. That 'empowering' video, that 'girl power' video is entertainment to them. Its not something that they 'fear' but something they long for. They want to use us and then throw us aside once they're done.
Its wrong. Its just wrong. They don't see us as girlfriends, wives, mothers, sisters but as objects.
Why do we condone to this?
Why do we feel 'alright' with this?
If you feel a little the way I do, please just show your disapproval to these actions, words. Stop these conversations by walking away when people are having them. Don't pretend like 'its just a joke or a word'. Its those little moments that we ignore that build up to bigger problems.
I don't know about you but I'm FED UP.
